The Lipstick Tag

I had a request to talk about my lipsticks and I have indeed planned to do so for a while now, as in my mountain of post drafts, I had not one, but two lipstick inspired tags. One is called The Lipstick Tag and the other the Lip Products Addict Tag. I decided to combine them in one post as some questions were basically the same.

1. What was the first lipstick you owned?

I sort of answered this in my Make Up Memory Lane Tag a few months ago. The question there was about the first makeup item ever and as a true lipstick enthusiast it was of course a lipstick. It was one of L'Oreal's Color Riche ones in a my-lips-but-better rosy colour and I was 13 when I got it. I lost it within a month (this is a different Color Riche on the picture, but the packaging is still the same).

2. What is your favourite lipstick brand?

That's a hard one. I have so many different brands in my collection and the one thing I've learned through the years is how good drugstore lipsticks have become. On my All-time favourites page I have Catrice's Ultimate Colours under the category of regular lipsticks because they combine a great formula, affordability and lovely selection of shades. But there are so many other excellent lipsticks and the ones I have to mention are Bourjois' Rouge Edition and L'Oreal's colour Riche.

Of course if I consider liquid lipsticks here as well, then my absolute favourite are Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet.

3. What is your most worn lipstick?

I swap colour so very often and it's not uncommon that I change it several times daily, but a couple of years ago my answer would be Catrice's Ultimate Colour 250 Matt About Pink, which I wore almost every day (it's now sadly discontinued). I guess if I have to pick one that is my default shade that I just pick up when I'm in a hurry, or I need to look good without being too made up, it would be Bourjois' Rouge Edition Velvet in 07 Nude-ist.

5. What is your favourite finish?
Matte. Especially at bright and deep shades.

6. What was the last lipstick you bought?

It's been a while, so I had to check in my New Ins and Instagram, but it was Kiko's Velvet Mat Lipstick 612 Strawberry Pink that I got back in March . That's the one I bought, but since then I got sent several lipsticks and I believe the last one was Hot Shop Lipstick 01 from Born Pretty, which turned out to be way too orange for me.

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?

Technically five, but I have two bags. In the big one, where I also have an emergency bag, I keep Catrice Pure Shine Colour Lip Balm 070 I Don't Red It for a sheer red pout, a mini H&M lipstick in Perfect Red that is a gorgeous, super glamorous red and a Burt's Bees lip balm, which I literally never use. In my other smaller bag, which I carry most often, I keep Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm 30 Redefined Rose for a no fuss pink and I actually reach for it very often, and I also carry a dinky sample of Avon Ultra Color Indulgence lipstick in Red Tulip which Petra (Adjusting Beauty) sent me for my birthday.
Why I have so many reds, I don't know.

8. What is your favourite red lip colour?

L'Oreal's Color Riché Pure Reds Collection Exclusive in Blake. People you need this in your life. I think that everyone deserves one fantastic red in their collection and this one is so worth it. It blows all other reds out of the water, including the old classics from MAC, which I have four including Ruby Woo and Russian Red.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?

Basically all my makeup fits into two smallest drawers in my Alex unit and even those are a third empty. Some lipsticks are in the two makeup/lipstick organizer units that I got from Müller, while the others are in Ferrero Rocher plastic boxes (as you can see I eat a lot of that stuff). The lip liners are in a candle holder that I got years ago in Rutar.

 10. Which lipstick are you currently lusting after?

I'm currently on a search for a perfect warm red-purple, think Mac's Rebel like. I saw a swatch of La Splash Studio Shine Lip Lustre in Aurora, but I don't buy that the colour actually looks like that. I'd like to give Wet 'n' Wild Megalast Lipstick in Sugar Plum Fairy a try, to see if it looks the way I want.
I have a few others on my wishlist, which you can see here.

11. Favourite balm/treatment?

For several years now it's Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Swivel Stick. It's basically the only lip balm I ever use, excluding the Labello's Fruity Shine Peach Lip Balm as that one is more of a gimmicky product to me since it's a tinted lip balm with little moisturising properties. But I must confess that my lips don't even need a lip balm any more. For some reason my lips are never dry.

12. Best luxury and best drugstore?

I haven't even tried that many luxury brands when it comes to lipsticks, but my pick would be Lancome Rouge In Love Lipsticks, however Bourjois Rouge Editions feel pretty much exactly the same on the lips.

13. Best MAC lipstick?

Without a doubt Relentlessly Red. It's bloody gorgeous and I never found anything similar. It's a bright red-magenta pink with a matte finish. I still only have a sample that I save like crazy, but one day I hope I'll get a full size of it.

16. The most disappointing?

Not exactly disappointing, but lacking in quality - it's Makeup Revolution's lipstick. It just feels cheap. Their Iconic Pro didn't wow me either. I'm also not a fan of Essence Longlasting lipsticks. The formula is ok, but they last a total of 15 minutes on the lips.

17. Liner, yes or no?

Oh, yes. I also love wearing lip liners on their own, especially light colours. My favourites include Bourjois' Contour Edition Lip Liner 02 Cotton Candy, Essence's Lipliner 12 Wish Me a Rose, which is a dupe for Mac's Please Me, the űber gorgeous Catrice's Longlasting Pencil 070 I got you Babel, Essence's Longlasting Lipliner 05 Lovely Frappuccino as the 90's lip colour that actually looks like one against my pale complexion and Kiko's Smart Lip Pencil in 709 Magenta because it's a stunning red-pink shade. When it comes to reds, brights and deep shades I almost always use a lip pencil to fix the outer edges.

18. Best gloss?

That would be L'Oreal L'Extrodinaire Liquid Lipsticks. They are expensive, but so lovely. The formula is super creamy, comfortable and these have great pigmentation. They also smell like peaches which for me is a huge plus.

19. Something extra?

Some of my other favourite shades. Mac's Peach Blossom as my choice for a nude, Shiseido's Glowing Matte Pk224 Sugar Babe for the perfect peach on my pale complexion, Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 02 Frambourjoise because it's an amazing pink-red shade, L'Oreal's Colour Riche in Laetitia for the best ever burgundy shade, Mac's Dangerous for a bright, warm orange red. Revlon's Ultra HD in Rose for a classic, everyday pink that smells like Planica ice cream, Revlon's Colorbust Matte Balm in Unapologetic for a bright coral-pink that is a good dupe for Mac's Impassioned and Catrice's Ultimate Lipstick 360 MATraction for an amazing deep red-pink.

My entire collection, which I posted a while ago on Instagram:

I hope you enjoyed this picture heavy post and have a great day!

L'Oreal L'Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick 101 Rose Melody

I won't go too much into details about this lip gloss, simply because this is my second shade from this range and I've already done a review about the formula and all the rest of the stuff in my post about the shade 201 Rose Symphony. All you need to know is that these are my favourite glosses despite the slightly eye-watering price for a drugstore product. The texture of these is amazing because it's so creamy, moisturising and not at all sticky, so I often end up wearing it as lip balm alternative. These also smell divine, at least to me, since they smell like peaches, which is my favourite scent.

Rose Melody is a natural nude shade with pink tones in it (a more beige version of this shade is Nude Vibrato) and it's not as opaque as Rose Symphony. On me it's a my-lips-but-better shade and it makes the lips look a touch more nude, but it doesn't completely cover my natural colour and I quite like that. There is some tiny shimmer in it as well, but it's the type that doesn't end up all over the face like at some other glosses resulting in people asking you if you just ended your shift at the glitter factory.

It's such a lovely natural shade and it's pretty much the only thing I wore this whole month (well, at least until I purchased Bourjois' Nude-ist).

These cost about 14 € in our drugstores, while it's cheaper on Boots International at about 9 GBP (12 €), especially when they have one of those 3 for 2 offers.

 Have a great day!

Clarins Gloss Prodige 03 Rose

I'll start by saying that this was given to me to review, since as you may have noticed, it's not a colour I'd normally wear, at least not any more. I used to love such pale nudes when I was really young, but now I find that I need some colour on the lips to keep me from looking too washed out, but such pale shades look really good with a smoky eye.

I have no idea why Clarins chose to name this shade rose as it is nothing rose like, unless they meant yellow roses, but this lip gloss isn't yellow despite of how it may look in the tube. It's a very warm nude shade and I presume the yellow tones in it are meant to counteract the red tones, so the gloss actually looks nude on the lips (MAC has/had Spring Bean Lustreglass that works in the same way). It's very similar to Mac's Florabundance and Underage in terms of how it looks on the lips, so it's like it slips into every line and crevice under close inspection, but surprisingly it appears relatively even when looked from afar. The finish is more of a creamy glossy shine rather than mirror one.

The formula is very, very similar to their Instant Lip Perfectors, perhaps just a bit thicker and it's stickier, but it's so incredibly comfortable on the lips, like a little cushion for the lips and I think that it even nourishes the lips like an expensive lip balm. Staying power is nothing special when it comes to how long the glossy finish lasts, but the creamy layer stays a lot longer.

It smells so good, like candy, Kiki soft candy to be more specific. I love any candy scent, so this is a big plus for me.

The packaging is beautiful with the gold cap, but I'm not a massive fan of the applicator as it is big and therefore on the clumsy side.

If you're a fan of nude glosses and have quite reddish lips, this might work better for you than classic nude glosses. The formula of these is so lovely and comfortable, but in other aspects it's still a normal gloss.

I've seen that these costs 18 GBP on Boots International, but forgot to check the price in our shops. It's probably somewhere around the 20 € mark.

Izdelki Clarins so na voljo v Müller drogerijah, Maximarketu, Nami, Beautique drogerijah in Kompass shop-ih.

Have a great day!

Dior Addict Fluid Stick 479 Magique

It's hard to resist a product in a pretty packaging and as shallow as it may sound, I admit that the cool, yet glam tubes of Fluid Sticks played a huge part in why I wanted at least one. These lip gloss/liquid lipsticks just exploded on the market in the past year and though I'm a through and through lipstick person, I'm quite enjoying these new releases and Dior's is certainly one of the most glamorous.

Fluid Stick in Magique is a very pigmented lip gloss with a high shine finish, so it gives the appearance of a lip gloss and lipstick in one if you apply a thick coat, however, it can be worn very subtly, giving the sheer glossy lipstick effect. It's a thick gloss, hence the abundance of pigmentation and it's not sticky, however, it has quite a "wet" feeling on the lips, so it feels a bit pleasantly cooling upon application.

Magique is a medium pink-coral shade and, for me at least, a very everyday colour that looks very glam due to the shine. I was considering buying Wonderland, just like Sara, but when I was swatching all the shades in the shop, I decided on Magique because it's a colour that is easy to wear and should work with a lot of things.

The scent is nothing special. It has a gentle caramel/vanilla scent, but with a chemical component. It's not strong, so mostly I don't even notice it.

Staying power is better than at most glosses I've tried, which is what I expected from it considering the high price tag. It's not uncommon that it survives a meal, but it depends on what you eat. I believe these promise to leave a stain and I notice that this shade does. It's not a proper stain, but it's more of a lingering lipstick stain - for me that's enough.

As I said the packaging is a complete stunner and the applicator is nice to use. This pretty tube gained a special place on my vanity.

I got mine in Műller for an eye-watering 31.79 €, though I did use a few of their "receipt coupons" to soften the blow. Besides, I had a particularly lousy day, so some pampering was in order - it felt very satisfying holding such a pretty new goody in my hands.

I have a few other lip gloss/liquid lipstick hybrids: L'Oreal's L'Extraordinaire,  Revlon's Moisture Stain, Catrice Made to Stay Smoothing Lip Polish and Makeup Revolution Salvation Intense Lacquer. I think Dior's is the best one, although I admit I have quite a soft spot for L'Extraordinaire because of the divine peach scent, but's not quite as pigmented and long lasting as Dior's (Catrice's wins in terms of staying power - it's pretty awesome). So do I think it's worth the money? If you're a hardcore lip gloss girl, who loves high shine finish, then yes, the quality will appeal to you greatly. Otherwise, I think it's a lovely pampering product, especially nice for a Christmas gift, but whether you want to splurge on a lip gloss, which never lasts as long as a lipstick or a matte liquid lipstick, it's up to you. I don't regret it for a second.

Have a great day!

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain 020 Rio Rush

I'll start by saying that this for me isn't what I'd call a lip stain, in fact, it's essentially a very pigmented lip gloss. However, confusing name aside, it's a nice lip gloss with a very good colour pay-off and it does feel moisturising on the lips (then again most glosses do, right?).
(Ocena v slovenščini je na dnu objave.)

Rio Rush is a bright medium pink, which to me looks kind of Barbie-ish, but it's still classy enough. I had several colours to choose from when I was given this to test and this one immediately caught my attention. It's a very adorable colour and I can imagine it on a young girl because it gives a very fresh, cute look and it would look awesome paired with a touch of mascara and a pink blush. You get a very good colour pay-off with just one coat, it's really not far away from a liquid lipstick also because one coat has more of a creamy shine and with the second coat you get a proper glossy shine. The colour doesn't stay super vibrant for long after application, but it settles into a very wearable, everyday shade and the super glossy finish quickly gets more creamy and subdued. I wonder if that is what they meant by stain, but stains are meant to be very long-lasting as well as smudge-proof and this isn't.

The formula is an interesting hybrid between a creamy gloss and a mousse type of liquid lipstick, I haven't tried anything like it. It's closer to a liquid lipstick in formula, but it's still a gloss. Staying power is very good for a gloss and due to stronger pigmentation, it manages to cling on for several hours. It doesn't survive eating or drinking and only slight traces in form of individual patches remain on the lips, so I would definitely refrain myself from calling these stains. It feels very comfortable on the lips, there is no stickiness or gloopiness, it doesn't flake and wears off evenly. I don't know how other colours perform, but the formula of this one is certainly lovely.

The packaging is a square tube with a doe foot applicator. It's not the prettiest packaging in my opinion, but that's subjective anyway. The applicator is curved and fits nicely on the lips.

It smells like paint if I put my nose to it, but it's not unpleasant or annoying, I actually don't even notice it

It's a lovely lip gloss. Yes, the name is deceiving and I think that if they just called them what they are, maybe glossy liquid lipsticks, I really doubt it'd affect market appeal. The shade I have is super pigmented, the formula is very comfortable to wear and staying power is good for a gloss, but there is no staining at all like at Catrice Made to Stay Smoothing Lip Polish. The colour looks adorable once it settles and it's very everyday appropriate.

These cost about 10 €, but it depends where you buy them.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
